Collectively we have considerable experience in Conceptual Design, Engineering and Project Management, including electrical systems and on-site generation, pressure piping systems (e.g. Natural Gas and Hydrogen), Interpretation of relevant Acts, Regulations, Standards & Guidelines, Hazard Identification and Risk Analysis, development, implementation and auditing of operating procedures, Risk-based Auditing, Safety Management Systems Training and Emergency Planning.

David McLean, P.Eng. is President and Owner of River Bend Consulting. Dave has over 40 years of experience in engineering and management.

In addition to his River Bend activities, from 2016 Dave has served as Vice President of Northern Cross Energy Limited and from 2012 through early 2013 Dave held the position of Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of NGage Energy Solutions, Inc.

From 2005 through 2010 Dave was Vice President, Technology Programs and Chief Operating Officer at the NextEnergy Center located in Detroit, Michigan. In this role, Dave was responsible for overseeing the operation of all aspects of NextEnergy’s Technology Programs as well as the NextEnergy facility including the MicroGrid, Labs and the Alternative Fuels Platform. During his time at NextEnergy Dave was a key executive involved with attracting and executing over $50 million of government research, development and demonstration funding for 14 major advanced energy technology programs.

Dave began his work with NextEnergy in 2003 when he was an owner and principal of David A. McLean and Associates, Inc. (DMA), a multi-disciplined engineering consulting firm with expertise in energy, environment, health and safety, quality and operating systems. During his 14 years at DMA Dave was instrumental in attracting numerous clients and executing many projects including extensive work with natural gas and electric utilities as well as a hydrogen infrastructure provider for stationary power and vehicle fueling applications. As a consultant to NextEnergy, Dave provided oversight of the construction of the NextEnergy Center, the Microgrid Power Pavilion and the Alternative Fuels Platform. He also developed the Integrated Management System for NextEnergy which includes the operating, maintenance, quality, environmental and emergency response plans and procedures.

Prior to starting DMA in 1991, Dave spent 15 years with Union Gas Limited, an integrated natural gas storage, transmission and distribution utility holding positions of increasing responsibility in engineering, gas supply, contract and regular rate sales and operations.

Dave is a professional engineer registered in Ontario and a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. Dave holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Electrical Engineering and an Honors Bachelor of Commerce degree.
